Holga in Berlin - Brandenburg Gate | A Holga in Paris’s journey to I Witness

When Matt and I travel we come home with thousands of digital images and rolls of film that I’ve run though my Holga.  It’s really impossible to say: “this one is my favorite” when there are many that I connect with but there are those that are special to me. My Holga Brandenburg Gate is one of those photographs. When I look at this image I feel like I’m looking at a proud but wounded creature. Scared over time but still standing and its witnessing rebirth all around it.

I hope that people are enjoying the Holga shots and don’t mind more in the future because I’ve been having a blast digging through my archive, scanning old work and shoot new work.

Tutto Theatre Company is using one of the Holga shots that I shared with you in past, “A Holga in Paris” as artwork for the I Witness poster and handbill.

The original image was just straight B&W then I took it into this split tone place and the final poster was design by Matt Ervin (my loving other half) and all I can say is that I love this poster. Matty makes my work look good.

More to come soon!

Holga & SYTYCD

If you follow my work at all on Facebook you probably already know that I’ve been shooting again with my Holga and going through old Holga negatives. It amazes me how many images I’ve found that for one reason or another I’ve missed or not had the time to play with at the time then forgotten. A Holga is such a wonderful little camera and gives me that feeling of magic that sometimes can be lost when working with a digital camera and Photoshop.

If you know me you know how much I hate the summer season but at lease there’s So You Think You Can Dance to look forward to each year.  Last season was a bit of a disappointment to be honest but with the return of Mia Michaels and a several of past favorites this season should be full of freshness and energy.  Since I was a little kid dance has had a unique draw for me that I have difficulty putting into words.  The ability to have such complete control of one’s body and to use the ability to express creatively is powerful for me to watch in large part because of my physical limitations.  Blah, now I just sound like I’m feeling sorry for myself when in truth I’ve never failed to appreciate how fortunate I am to have such mild CP and for it to only minimally effect my everyday life.

Headshots are here again…

In the past month or so I’ve shot a handful of headshots after taking a bit of a break from shooting that type of work. This has inspired me to share with a few of my favorite shots from the past and soon I hope to be able to share some of my new favorites. It’s such personal and intimate session and work that provides me the opportunity to connect with people on a leave that I may other wise have. To make a session work my subject has to share with and open up to me and vice versa.

More to come soon,

Justin Scalise

Justin Scalise is an actor and is someone that I’ve wanted to get to know better for some time. We bump into each other around town with frequency but there’s never the opportunity to have a conversation of substance. About two weeks ago he took me up on the offer to sit for a portrait. The session gave us the time to have a real conversation while creating some powerful images. I’m hoping to work more with Justin in the future. Love, love, love the eyes!

On a person note, I’ve been thinking a great deal about friendships and the people that I surround myself with past and present. There’s been a fire of sorts that has swept through my life clearing it of those people who longer needed to be there, stripping away those who were toxic and allowed the true and honest relationships to shine bright.

Post-Oedipus

Had a great time shoot some press images for the upcoming production of Post-Oedipus in Austin, Texas at The Blue Theatre by Getalong Gang. It was one of the shoots where I had a rough idea in mind of what I wanted to achieve in terms of look and feel but nothing super mapped out so the process was very organic.  This type of process can be a bit more stressful in the beginning but extremely rewarding and fun by the end of shoot. This shoot marks the first time working with the people at Getalong Gang and the two amazing ladies who have recently taken over management of The Blue Theatre. This project is also the first time working with James Brownlee who is playing Oedipus and I’d love the chance to work with him again.

I hope that you enjoy this new image as much as I am and please don’t be afraid to leave comments.

Getting 2010 started right...

First blog of 2010 and what better way to start than to share than these two new pieces that I've been keeping in hiding as they were a Christmas gift for they're mom. I'm so proud of these images. This bright and contrast look is direction that I'm going to continue exploring this year.

I'm looking forward to 2010 because I feel like for the first time I have a better understanding of where I want to take my work, who I want to work with and they kind of clients I want to seek out. Already I've been talking with several people about projects that have my excited and I think will provide me with material and subject matter to expand my work in areas it hasn't gone before now.

Happy New Year!
